Letter #8 āĀ āļøĀ Writing from Seattle š²
In this letter š, weāll share:
Financial Freedom on the Go: Travel tipsĀ š¤«Ā to keep your budget in check while strolling to Financial FreedomĀ
Annnnnnd our favorite budget tools for traveling š„°
From now until the end of the year, weāve gotĀ 5 trips, 6 countriesĀ lined up!
Weāre pretty much living withĀ "Rather Be"Ā as our theme songāāThereās no place Iād rather be...āĀ (except, maybe, home š« ). WeĀ sworeĀ next year would be our chill yearā¦
Still, weāre incredibly grateful. Not a single moment is taken for granted. š
The path to Freedom weāve chosen lets us travel like crazy (okay, maybe a bitĀ too crazy this year š ), and still spend 4 months a year with both sets of parents, and reconnecting with friends across the globe. š Reunions always bring us so much joy.
Now, if we were only hopping on a plane 2-3 times a year, we could afford to be a bit looser with our budget.Ā
Butā¦Ā traveling 6 months a year?Ā š«š¬ ThatāsĀ budgeting on expert modeĀ š¤ if weāre going to hitĀ Financial Freedom by 2027.Ā
So hereās to balancing wanderlust and saving smart, becauseĀ the dream doesnāt come without a plan!Ā ššø

and know it wonāt derail your path to Financial Freedom. šāļø Living the dream and still playing the long gameāwho says you canāt have it all?
to minimize how much extra youāll need to save each month.
Hereās a simple formula:
Travel budget = estimated trip cost ā what you'd spend at home.
For example, You're off to Uzbekistan šŗšæ for 2 weeks (on our bucket list š¤).Ā
Monthly home expenses are $4000 (excluding rent/mortgage), and your trip costs $3000.
So, the real extra savings you need isĀ $1000 (= $3000 trip cost - $2000, 2 wks of your home expenses).
And if you book flights 4 months ahead,Ā setĀ aside $250/monthāBAMMM, trip paid before takeoff. ššŗ
Budgeting doesnāt limit youāit frees you upĀ š to spend confidently, knowing your finances are in check. No more anxiously waiting for post-trip costs to creep up unexpectedly! šØšø
Youāll have the best time š¤©, all while planning even more adventures. Aināt that a good feeling? šš°š

This is just 2/3 of all the trips weāve taken this year.Ā Imagine if we didnāt have a budget in place?!! šµāš« Canāt go back to that YOLO life when we had zero visibility into our finances š.
Traveling can quickly make us lose track of how much weāve spentācue inĀ this amazing app.Ā
It's your personal financial guardian angel š¼ while you're on the road.Ā
You can track expenses in multiple currencies 𤯠(it does the conversion for you!), and visualize your budget in real time.
Bonus: It works offline, so no chasing Wi-Fi in the jungle.
š«Ā Pro tip:Ā Manually record every expense immediatelyāyouāll thank yourself later!

We used the app to track expenses during our Costa Rica trip to (mostly) stay within budget. š
When withdrawing cash from ATM or paying abroad, ALWAYS choose the local currency option.
Avoid conversion traps that make your coffee cost as much as a three-course meal.Ā
š«Ā Pro tip:Ā Carry some cash for small places where card machines are rarer than Wi-Fi.
Nobody likes hidden feesāespecially from ATMs.
Our go-to ATM card for traveling reimburses all ATM fees worldwide, so you can access cash anywhere without worrying about extra charges! More savings for snacks.
š« Pro tip:Ā Set up travel notice (hereās how) before you take off.Ā
Using the right travel credit cards can help you rack up points on flights, hotels, and even everyday expenses.Ā
Redeeming points for flights or upgrades can save you big time and stretch your travel budget even further.Ā We bought 85% of our flights this year with pointsĀ š¤
Check out theĀ r/awardtravelĀ andĀ r/churningĀ SubReddits for tips on maximizing travel points.Ā
Just remember,Ā everything in moderationādonāt spendĀ tooĀ much time optimizing (Angie went down the rabbit hole for two months before realizing she could've used that time on something more meaningful š ).
Stick to these tips, and youāll return home with amazing memoriesāand a bank account that hasnāt ghosted you.
That's it for today. Happy (and budget-friendly) travels! āļøšš°
Hope it's helpful for your journey to Freedom š
Love you to freedom and back, š«°

P.S. 1 Donāt forget to splurge a little... but only if itās truly worth it (hello, spa day!).
P.S. 2 Letās spread the love š«¶ If you know someone who could benefit from our tips, feel free to forward this email to them š!
We got back home a few days ago, which means Angie is back in her meal prep zone. š©š»āš³Ā One of her best tricks?Ā šĀ Freezing chopped garlic/ginger and olive oil in ice cube traysāand rice (yep, you read that right). Not all trays pop the cubes out easily though. Angieās broken a few, but she finally found the perfect onesĀ for garlicĀ and a separate setĀ for rice.
ThisĀ candle warmerĀ is a total game-changer! It makes our place smell amazing without the risk of burning down the house. Yo and it extends the life of the candles 𤯠You can keep using your favorite fancy candle (probably from Diptyque) forever! It was even on Googleās gift list last Christmas, so guess weāre not the only ones obsessed. š¤
