Letter #37 – ✍️ Writing in NYC 🗽

This week’s newsletter:

• We’re finally published our first Youtube video!

Hi friends and fam, ♥️

I recently stumbled upon a Youtube video by Ali Abdaal titled “How to get rich”. I was curious what “rich” meant to him, and what his take would be.

Turns out, he meant it quite literally. 🤑 

His message, in short: If you want to get rich, you have to be unhealthily obsessed with getting rich. (meaning other parts of your life will have to be sacrificed)

I told Tyler that, and he genuinely replied,“Too bad, my life is too balanced.”

I laughed and said,“Well that’s a pretty good problem to have.”

But I also agreed. We’ve spent years building that balance. If our life weren’t somewhat balanced by now, we’d be way off our mark. 😅

So maybe we have been unhealthily obsessed with… maintaining balance.Even with our projects, we’ve pushed deadlines just to travel more and spend more time with loved ones.

Which brings me to this: 😆We filmed this video almost two months ago when my parents visited, and it’s just now ready. 🐢🏁

Travel happened. Friends and family visits happened. Quality time happened. Hobbies happened. ♥️

Those things always come first. Whatever time and energy we have left, we pour into this creative/business project.

But here we are—finally sharing it. 🥹Slow and steady, but always moving forward. 🐌 

Some fun facts about this project

• It was built by a team of two: a UX designer and a software engineer.Yes, it’s us—Tyler and me. 🤓👩🏻‍💻

• Tyler, who started as just a front-end engineer, dove headfirst into full-stack territory for this. The learning curve? Let’s just say it had some altitude. 🧗‍♂️ (I’m pretty proud of him though 🥹)

• We started building it in July 2024, which means it’s taken us exactly a year to go from idea to launch.Slow? Yes.Steady? Also yes.Still going? Miraculously, yes. 😅

• But the time gave us space to test it with our own guests—and let me tell you, the number of completely clueless guests? Definitely went down. 🙌🥳

• Just like when we launched stroll2freedom.com, there were so many last-minute bugs 🐞 — and just like last time, we spent the whole night cracking up while fixing them. What else can you do, right? 😂

• Are we going to make another one? Maybe—once we slow down on traveling (which might take a while 😅). Big shout-out to all the content creators out there. 👏🙏 It takes so much hard work and courage to put yourself out there (and to constantly listen to your own voice).

• We filmed this before realizing we’d already hit our Freedom Number 🗽But we kept the 2027 goal in the video, re-recording felt like way too much work. 🫠
